What type of reel to use when fishing Kings in the Kenai river?

Project on wade into the river, no fishing boat (perhaps a little fishing on the bank's some deep). I'm getting an ugly stick 8.5 'auction, but for a coil are still up in the air. What would be the best rod and reel for bass fishing?
